World Economic Forum in Davos - Not economic, not environmentally friendly?

As it happens every year in Davos, The World Economic Forum has once again attracted top leaders, politicians, businessmen from all over the world to discuss important issues from all over the world. Ironically, while this year's main issue was tackling the climate chance, the event itself generated significant emission. Even though the organisers have offered free train rides to attendees. They, however, mostly refused and there was even a 15% increase in private jet landings!

Not even 0.01% of population uses private jets (actually 1/3 of that small number), but they contribute a lot to carbon emissions. It is actually comparable to gasoline-powered cars. Businessmen visiting Davos have also used helicopters.

This did not go without any pushback - Greenpeace activists have openly protested and temporarily blocked the access to the heliport, while calling for reforms to tax the wealth of global billionaires. Many critics have cited this or similar reasons - mainly the hypocrisy of elites discussing these climate solutions while heavily polluting the planet. The event causing further tensions - the disparity between climate advocacy and personal action.
